Friend Zone Movie Review

Watching the movie Friend Zone feels like watching the pain of love waiting to clap each other

Friend Zone movie that was in 2019 has been shown in theaters in Indonesia, this time can be watched through Netflix.

Friend Zone synopsis has been circulated through IMdB, which tells about a condition that is in this world, there are many people who seem to be stuck along the relationship bordering on ‘friends’ and ‘lovers’.This boundary line is also commonly known as the Friend Zone. This is a special area for those stuck in the middle where they can’t really make friends with their close friends, or progress into their friend’s lover.

It is said that Palm(Naphat Siangsomboon)is one of the people who stuck in the friendship zone with his best friend, Gink(Pimchanok Luevisadpaibul),for 10 years. During high school, she tries to cross the line by admitting her feelings for him. But Gink simply rejected it, saying that “just making friends is enough.”

Since then, Palm and Gink have gotten closer as true friends. Whenever Palm breaks up with one of his countless girlfriends, Gink will scold him, talking a little about him.

Whenever Gink quarrels with his girlfriend, wherever he is in Myanmar, Malaysia, or Hong Kong, all he has to do is call palm, who uses his facilities as a flight attendant to catch a flight in order to be with him.

Perhaps, because of his excessive kindness that makes Gink troubled with Ted(Jason Young)his girlfriend.

One day, Gink suddenly asks Palm, “Have you ever wondered – what if we were a couple?” At that moment, the spark flies wildly in Palm’s mind, knowing that this may be his only chance to cross the line. Even so, Palm doesn’t know if leaving friend zone this time will lead him to the beginning of his romantic love life or to the end of his friendship with Gink for good.

Both times watching this film still feels exciting, especially the acting pimchanok Luevisadpaibul, which feels more mature, when compared to his former role as Nam in the film First Love (A Little Thing Called Love) and also his hilarious appearance in the film Raditya Dika (The Guys). In this film, he is able to again show the ugly side of the character he plays with stronger energy, a turbulent concern in him, seen on his face, although occasionally there is still a line of laughter appears, if the scene is indeed in a comical condition. But overall, it seems that the development of his acting from the beginning is still shy, becoming more mature. Hopefully if you continue to pursue acting, in the next few years, will be better able to play characters in other genres.

The theme of this story is timeless, and this time with a location that changes at a rapid tempo from one country to another, it is enough to satisfy traveling fans, because they can reminisce when certain scenes touch the feeling, by visiting the location where the scene is used for filming.

The cameraman is also quite good at taking certain points of view that will leave a deep impression, plus the sound of a simple and memorable song.

Unfortunately, the location in Indonesia is not shown in this film. Why oh why?

When watching this trailer, the alleys “friend zone” , of course will feel represented their fate by the character Palm.

It is difficult to step out of the zone that has been set unilaterally by Gink, when his mental state is being kacrut due to his father’s actions. So if at that time Palm emphasized that his feelings were more than just friends, they both knew the end of the next event. That’s why Palm tried to restrain himself and just accept Gink’s wishes. For ten years, the incident was detained and finally arrived when the point of continuation was opened by Gink, who was back in a state of kacrut because of the actions of his serious girlfriend Ted.

This raises a question, whether it is better to start ten years ago or after ten years have passed.

The author of this story seems to give an answer with a sentence spoken by one of the victims of the frind zone in the friend zone gang, which is better to wait ten years, because that’s when emotions, thoughts have become more mature and better understand the meaning of love.

After all, is not according to the account of director Chayanop ‘Mu’ Boonprakob  there is a snippet of sentences that become the basis of the premise of this story is

There’s a thin line drawn across two friendly people.

They have feelings for each other, but choose not to go any further. They prefer to keep it a friend status, considering making friends is good enough.
