Mudik film has competed in the 4th International Film Festival Awards Macao (IFFAM), which took place from December 5, 2019 to December 10, 2019 and CinemAsia Film Festival in March 2020, starting from August 28, 2020 can already be watched through mola TV platform
Mudik (Homecoming) was written by himself and then directed by Adriyanto Dewo, previously known through Tabula Rasa, a film with a drama theme but raised social isyu in Indonesia.
So of course the audience also expects the least the same thing as this homecoming film, as well as waiting for social isyu what else to be raised .
Homecoming is a local culture in Indonesia, which is done repeatedly every year so as to cause this to be a ritual that must be done, otherwise it will feel like something is missing. Even the meaning of the word homecoming itself has the sense / synonym back or refer. Both understandings of this understanding are interesting taken by Adriyanto Dewo as the title of this film, because from the trailer and synopsis of this film we are indeed brought into the idea of the story of Aida(Putri Ayudya)and her husband Firman(Ibnu Jamil)who are having a conflict and decided to go home ahead of Lebaran.
In this period of the course of stripping the conflict they are experiencing, Aida and Firman are again faced again with a deep problem and apparently often occurs in every year, namely accidents that occur during homecoming.
From the trailer, we can feel that it looks like Aida did it. Here it becomes interesting, because it is seen from argument to argument, there is also a problem in terms of communicating between Aida and the Word.
A few questions arose. Is it because such a conflict is so severe that the argument causes an accident? Has this accident finally become a unifying event for the couple? Is the end of this story a happy ending for both couples?
But if heard from the accompanying music, it feels nuanced thriller, especially there is a dialogue that states they can not get out of the village if they have not solved the problem. This trailer does make curiosity peak, moreover there is a mysterious appearance from Santi(Asmara Abigail)and there is also one scene where Aida and Santi hug each other. So what is Santi’s role here in the conflict between Aida and the Word?
The script that won the Script Room in 2016 is interesting and has widening potential and gives different results from the initial thought instilled from the beginning of film. Take for example the film Tabula Rasa by Adriyanto Dewo earlier whose “twist” feels very unique but sweet.
In this sense, when watching the screening of the film Mudik, it appears that indeed the audience must get ready again to receive a surprising and unexpected “twist”, even by Aida and Firman herself.
So there’s a surprise factor twice in this film, on the cast and in the audience. Adriyanto Dewo managed to include this element of surprise with a very fitting time in the scene.
This film is suitable to be watched for couples who are facing domestic conflicts and also who are missing homecoming.
Again praise can be given to Princess Ayudya who managed to convey the message and anxiety of a woman who had to face the bitter reality and finally her courage to decide.
